Mauritania: terrorism threatens Dakar’s rally / Mauritânia: terrorismo ameaça rali de Dacar

A recent attack supposedly linked to Al-Qaeda begins to threaten the world’s most famous rally – Lisbon-Dakar route on the current edition. France’s government warned its citizens about travelling to Mauritania – African country where the rally pass through.

“The ministry strongly advises all French people against travelling to Mauritania until further notice. That goes for all French people, as well as for the organisation of the Lisbon-Dakar rally,” said a France’s government spokesman.

On the other hand, Northern and Central Africa have been showing several conflicts recently. Perhaps such “warnings” could change world’s point of view on African nations – somehow, the international community will need to interfere there as soon as possible, and threatening situations involving European and US citizens could be a way to accelerate new measures to sort that out.

I would say, as always… let’s wait a bit further.

Recentes atentados supostamente ligados à Al-Qaeda começam a ameaçar o mais famoso rali do mundo – o Lisboa-Dacar, na edição deste ano. O governo francês advertiu seus cidadãos em relação à Mauritânia – país africano por onde passa o rali.

“O primeiro-ministro adverte fortemente todos os franceses quanto a viajar para a Mauritânia até que se tenha mais notícias. Isso vale para todos os franceses, bem como para a organização do rali”, disse porta-voz do governo da França.

Por outro lado, os países da África do Norte e Central têm mostrado diversos conflitos recentemente. Talvez tais “avisos” possam mudar o ponto de vista mundial em relação à África – de algum modo, a comunidade internacional precisará intervir na região o quanto antes e ameaças a cidadãos europeus e norte-americanos podem ser uma maneira de acelerar as medidas para resolução da situação.
